چکیده

Establishing cooperation and protecting individuals from selfish or malicious behaviour are key goals in open multi-agent systems. Incomplete information regarding potential interaction partners can undermine mechanisms such as trust and reputation, particularly in lightweight systems designed for individuals with significant resource constraints. In this paper, we (i) propose extending low cost reputation mechanisms with gossiping algorithms, (ii) introduce four simple aggregation strategies for incorporating gossiped information, and (iii) evaluate our model on a variety of synthetic and real-world topologies. We show that (i) gossiping can significantly reduce the potentially detrimental influence of incomplete information and network structure on lightweight reputation mechanisms, (ii) using the most recently received gossip to make decisions results in up to a 25% reduction in selfishness, and (iii) gossiping is particularly effective at aiding agents with little or no interaction history, such as when first entering a system.

Cheat-Proof Trust Model for Cloud Computing Markets

Online Reputation Systems would help mitigate the information asymmetry between clients and providers in Cloud Computing Markets. However, those systems raise two main drawbacks: the disagreement for assuming the cost of ownership of such services and their vulnerability to reputation attacks from dishonest parties that want to increase their reputation. This paper faces both problems by descri...

A robust reputation-based location-privacy recommender system using opportunistic networks

Location-sharing services have grown in use commensurately with the increasing popularity of smart phones. As location data can be sensitive, it is important to preserve people’s privacy while using such services, and so location-privacy recommender systems have been proposed to help people configure their privacy settings. These recommenders collect and store people’s data in a centralised sys...

Rumours and Reputation: Evaluating Multi-Dimensional Trust within a Decentralised Reputation System

In this paper we develop a novel probabilistic model of computational trust that explicitly deals with correlated multi-dimensional contracts. Our starting point is to consider an agent attempting to estimate the utility of a contract, and we show that this leads to a model of computational trust whereby an agent must determine a vector of estimates that represent the probability that any dimen...

L.I.A.R.: Achieving Social Control in Open and Decentralised Multi-Agent Systems

Open and decentralised multi-agent systems (ODMAS) are particularly vulnerable to the introduction of buggy or malevolent agents. It is therefore very important to protect these systems from such intrusions. In this article, we propose the L.I.A.R. model to control the agents’ interactions. This model is issued from the social control approach, which consists in developing an adaptive and autoo...

Challenges for Robust Trust and Reputation Systems

The purpose of trust and reputation systems is to strengthen the quality of markets and communities by providing an incentive for good behaviour and quality services, and by sanctioning bad behaviour and low quality services. However, trust and reputation systems will only be able to produce this effect when they are sufficiently robust against strategic manipulation or direct attacks. Currentl...
